Stay Connected: Take Life Online

Life has been very different these past few weeks, but that doesn’t mean we still can’t have fun. With a little bit of creativity and today’s technology, we can all make the most out of the current situation. Here are a few ideas to help you keep connected.

Looking for Love

Single or new to a city? Check out online dating sites for new friends or potential suitors. Bumble, Tinder and others are free and easy to use. Start a few conversations now for when quarantine is over and you can meet up in person (in a safe, well-lit place, of course).

Happy Hour, Every Hour

If you’re like me, you miss a good happy hour. You can never go wrong with tacos, fries, flatbreads, and a 2-for-1 special. When you think about how much you spend at happy hour, you’ll be glad it’s easy to have one that’s just as fun from the comfort of your own living room or kitchen. Pull out your aprons, cutting boards and cocktail shakers and get to work. Set up a FaceTime or Zoom meeting with your friends and everyone can join in on the fun.

Read All About It

Ever join a book club? Me neither, until last month. Our group read five chapters of Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows every week, and met via FaceTime to discuss. Now is the time to finish that book you put down a few months (or years) ago, or discover something new. Get lost in a new story.

Club Quarantine

Turn to Instagram every weekend, where DJs are doing live sets including your favorite songs. Some artists are battling with their best hits, and others are putting on at-home concerts. Tune in and dance it out. You can even get dressed up if you want. It’s basically the club without the long lines and cover charges.

Dance Break

My mother is a huge fan of “Now That We Found Love” by Heavy D & the Boyz, so we’ve had a few virtual dance sessions as a family. Send out a Zoom invite to everyone you know and whoever is free will show up to Electric Slide, Wobble and Cha-Cha Slide for a few minutes.

Speaking of dancing, if you’re a fan of dance, pro cheer teams are holding weekly prep classes on Instagram and on their websites. Learn a few 8 counts and put them to different songs after you perfect them. Diva Dance has weekly packages you can sign up for and slay to a new song every day.

How are you staying connected? I’d love to hear what you’ve been up to.

Until next time…

-Jae Marie
